Virtue's Last Reward is a visual novel, however, I am not the reader but the editor of this story. The core of the game involves experiencing and then rewriting branching plot-lines. The story was strange and charming enough to keep me going but the mechanical action of the game is so crudely repetitive. You are either pressing X to advance dialog or sliding a cursor around an escape room. The translation from 3ds touchscreen to the Dualshock 4 is stiff and resistant to comfortable play. Despite this, the butter-smooth melodrama and brake stomping twists carry me to the fractured conclusion.
